The Winnipeg Jets look to make up some ground in the Central Division tonight when they host the Colorado Avalanche at MTS Centre. Viewers in the Jets region can watch the game on TSN Jets at 6:30pm ct/7:30pm et. The game is also avialable on TSN Radio 1290 in Winnipeg at 7pm ct. The Jets, who have lost two of three and seven of their last 11 games, began a three-game homestand on Tuesday with a 2-1 regulation loss against the St. Louis Blues. Kevin Shattenkirk scored the game-winner for the Blues on the power play with just 3:02 left in the third period. Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien was sent off for hooking with 3:26 to play in the third period, and the Blues wasted little time in breaking a 1-1 deadlock. Derek Roy fed across to Shattenkirk at the left point, and his shot changed direction en route to the net and floated over Winnipeg netminder Ondrej Pavelec. "I thought the game was ... a chess match played game early," said Jets head coach Claude Noel. "They ended up scoring a seeing-eye, power-play goal, so what can you do?" Bryan Little scored the lone goal for the Jets, while Pavelec made 18 saves in a losing effort. Evander Kane missed his fourth straight game due to a lower-body injury on Tuesday and the young forward will miss another tilt on Thursday. Kane has seven goals and seven assists in 26 games this season. The loss was the fourth straight defeat on home ice for Winnipeg, which hasnt posted a win at MTS Centre since beating Philadelphia for a shootout decision on Nov. 15. The Jets are 7-7-3 on home ice in 2013-14 and will close their homestand in Saturdays matinee battle against Dallas. Colorado earned a 3-2 home regulation win against Winnipeg on Oct. 27. Varlamov made 23 saves for the victory and Al Montoya took the loss after allowed Paul Stastny to score the game-winner with 5:28 left in the third period. Despite the setback from earlier this season, the Jets franchise, which was formerly known as the Atlanta Thrashers, have claimed five of the past eight meetings in this series. The Avalanche hope to avoid their second three-game losing streak of the season tonight. The Avalanche have lost two straight games in regulation and another setback on Thursday would match the clubs worst skid of the season, an 0-3-0 stretch from Nov. 12-16. Colorado also has lost three of four to begin December and has been outscored by a 16-7 margin so far this month. Both of Colorados recent setbacks came by 3-1 scores, including Tuesdays loss against visiting Phoenix. Antoine Vermette notched a pair of goals to help the Coyotes take down Colorado at the Pepsi Center and the Avs fell to 10-5-0 as the home team this season. Semyon Varlamov made 22 saves for the Avalanche, whose lone offense came on a Patrick Bordeleau tally late in the second period. Varlamov is 0-2-0 with a lofty 5.61 goals against average in his last two starts, but he will get the call over Jean-Sebastien Giguere on Thursday. The Russian netminder is 5-3-0 with a 2.62 GAA in nine career outings against the Atlanta/Winnipeg franchise. Following Thursdays road tilt, the Avalanche will play two straight and three of their next four in Denver. Colorado is 10-4-0 away from the Mile High City this season. OTTAWA, Ont. -- The Ottawa Senators would love to remember what its like to play with a lead. The Senators have yet to lead in a game or the series through the first four games against the New York Rangers. Considering the series is tied 2-2 the Sens have obviously been doing something right, but they admit it might be nice to know what its like to play with a lead. "In the playoffs thats what you want because it makes the other team try to take chances," said Nick Foligno. "It would be big for us to get the lead and its something were focusing on or trying to do, but sometimes the playoffs dont go that way and you have to find ways to battle back and we did that last game and it says a lot about the guys on this team." Ottawa tied the series Wednesday night scoring three unanswered goals, including the game winner after trailing 2-0 in the first period. While the Senators feel confident in their ability to rally, they realize that playing with a lead could make a big difference for them Saturday night. Scoring first could help take the crowd out of the game at Madison Square Garden, not to mention throw the Rangers off their game. "This is a huge game and they all have been, but this is the next one that we have to get," said Foligno. "I think the guys understand the significance of it so were going to go in there and do our best to try and get that lead and hopefully play it the whole way." If the regular season was any indication, Ottawa is a better team when it has the lead. The team had a 12-18-2 record when trailing after the first period and was 7-27-1 when trailing after two, but was 23-2-2 when leading after two. "We have to get a lead sometime and I think it would help quite a bit," said defenceman Jared Cowen. "I think it might give us a little confidence and just settle us down because when we settle down we play our game and thats what we need right now." Jason Spezza would love to be the guy to finally give the Senators a lead. Spezza has played well throughout the series, but with just two assists through four games a goal would be a bit of a relief for the 28-year-old. "Obviously I would like to be on the scoreboard, but as long as were winning games Im happy," said Spezza. "If my role in this series iis to draw some attention from them and tire out their guys and play kind of a grinding style of game I have no trouble playing that.dddddddddddd "If you would have talked to me a few years ago and Id have no goals after four games in the playoffs I would be pretty rattled, but now I can see the bigger picture ... If I can start scoring offensively that would give us a big boost too, but I feel like Im playing good hockey without scoring right now and if I add some goals its only going to help our team." Senators coach Paul MacLean has no problems with Spezzas overall game, but would like to see him make some minor adjustments. "The one thing wed like to see him do is to shoot the puck with more opportunities when he has them as opposed to looking for passing options," said MacLean. "Coming over the blue-line wed rather see him look for the shooting opportunity first." Spezza has nine shots through the first four games, but didnt register a single shot on goal in Wednesdays game. Cameras caught MacLean showing Spezza the score sheet prior to Kyle Turris scoring the overtime winner. "It was more of a reminder," said Spezza. "He likes me to shoot the puck a little more than I do at times and at the time hed like me to hit the puck a little more." The team will rely on Spezza more with captain Daniel Alfredsson out of the lineup. Alfredsson has been out since taking an elbow in Game 2 from Carl Hagelin, who will serve the last of his three-game suspension Saturday. "Hes unchanged," MacLean said of Alfredssons status before the team flew to New York. "And no, hes not travelling with us." Notes: Jesse Winchester did not practise Friday, but Mark Stone and Mike Hoffman took turns playing with Foligno and Turris. Both could earn consideration to draw into the lineup or the Senators could opt for Kaspars Daugavins or Rob Klinkhammer. "We have multiple personnel at this point," said MacLean.
