Stastny spent the first eight years of his career with the Colorado Avalanche. He was making $6.6 million per season over the past five years in Colorado. In 71 games with the Avalanche last season, Stastny scored 25 goals and 35 assists. The 28-year-old centre has 160 goals and 298 assists for 458 points in 538 career games in the NHL. Stastny, born in Quebec City, was drafted by the Avalanche in the second round (44th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Though born in Canada he represents the United States internationally. It is the first 30-goal campaign of Steens career. Steen and his father Thomas are just the third father-son combination to each score 30 goals in an NHL season.
