BRASILIA, Brazil -- Starved of the World Cup action for 16 years, Colombia -- and its fanatical travelling supporters -- are certainly making the most of being back on footballs biggest stage. http://www.soccerbelgiumonline.com/Jean-...um-Jersey/ . Driven on by a partisan pro-Colombian crowd that turned the Estadio Nacional into a sea of yellow, the South Americans scored through James Rodriguez and substitute Juan Quintero in a devastating six-minute spell in the second half to beat Ivory Coast 2-1 on Thursday. A second victory in Group C, following a 3-0 win over Greece, leaves Colombia on the verge of qualifying for a place in the last 16. Since 1998, every team that has earned six points in the group stage has advanced. "We have had two wins with players who are playing their first World Cup," Colombia coach Jose Pekerman said. "Were happy to have defeated such a good opponent. We have a lot of young players, and this is going to help them grow." Known for his midfield artistry, playmaker Rodriguez showed his prowess in the air by getting clear of Ivory Coast captain Didier Drogba -- again only used as a substitute -- at a corner to head in Colombias opener in the 64th minute, lighting up a disappointing match. The celebrations had hardly died down among the vast hordes of Colombia supporters by the time a defensive mistake by Ivory Coast midfielder Serey Die allowed Teofilo Gutierrez to play in Quintero, and the midfielder slotted home a low finish. Ivory Coast replied with a brilliant 73rd-minute solo goal by Gervinho, his second of the World Cup, but couldnt find a second despite a strong finish. The Ivorians remain on three points after their 2-1 opening win over Japan. Instead of Radamel Falcao, the countrys star striker who was ruled out through injury before the tournament, the most important factor in Colombias march through the group stage has arguably been its amazing support. With supporters wearing yellow shirts dominating the stadium, it was effectively an away game for the Ivorians. "It was extraordinary," Rodriguez said, "it was very much in our favour that Colombia could win." The crowd roared with relief at the final whistle, with Drogbas introduction in the 60th minute helping pep up Ivory Coasts attack that had previously looked rudderless with Wilfried Bony as the lone striker. "I must say that we didnt deserve to lose," Ivory Coast coach Sabri Lamouchi said. "It was very experienced Colombia team who waited for us to make mistakes." The Ivorians may still need to beat Greece in their last group game to reach the knockout stage for the first time at a World Cup. Drogba may now start that match but Lamouchi will also be looking for more from the squads top player, Yaya Toure, who seems like a shadow of the player who starred for Manchester City in the English Premier League last season. There was no mistaking the passion of the Ivory Coast lineup -- Die was in tears during the national anthem -- but the teams undoubted attacking quality has been lacking so far at this World Cup and Colombia looked more threatening going forward. The best chance of a cagey first half was spurned by Gutierrez, who miscued a volley with the goal at his mercy after being perfectly set up by Rodriguezs left-wing cross in the 28th. Otherwise, the highlight of the first 45 minutes came when a large inflatable ball bounced onto the playing surface, causing a brief stoppage. Tricky winger Juan Cuadrado struck the bar with a fierce, angled shot before teammate Rodriguez, named man of the match, broke the deadlock with the kind of header that Drogba -- the player supposed to be marking the Monaco playmaker -- has been used to delivering. Quinteros side-footed finish gave Colombia breathing space, meaning that Gervinhos goal -- he jinked through two defenders, beat another and shot inside goalkeeper David Ospinas near post -- proved to be just a consolation. http://www.soccerbelgiumonline.com/Jorda...um-Jersey/ . Damian Lillard added 21 points and 11 assists and hit a pair of clinching free throws with 2.1 seconds left for Portland, which beat Oklahoma City for the second time in December. Portland (25-7) snapped a two-game losing streak but still trails Oklahoma City (25-6) by a half-game in the Northwest Division standings. http://www.soccerbelgiumonline.com/Marou...um-Jersey/ . The loss completed Ottawas opening round series victory and sent the Northeast Division-winning Habs to the dressing room to pack after just five games.LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Thomas Robinson, the brawny Kansas forward who overcame personal tragedy to lead his team to a national runner-up finish this season, is leaving for the NBA. Robinson made the formal announcement Monday, with coach Bill Self and 9-year-old sister Jayla by his side. Robinson, the first unanimous first-team All-American since Blake Griffin, led the Jayhawks to the national championship game against Kentucky, where they lost 67-59. He averaged 17.9 points and 11.8 rebounds per game in 31.8 minutes in his junior season and led the nation with 27 double-doubles. "Coming to college as a basketball player should be a goal, it definitely was one for me," Robinson said. "Besides that, not winning the championship, I did everything I wanted to do plus more. I felt like I got too much love for it and not even do that much. After I look back at it, like coach was telling me during the season, I had no time to think about what I accomplished. It was a great experience. I wouldnt trade it in for anything." Coach Bill Self joked that he thought Robinson called everybody together to announce he was coming back. "In all honesty, I knew this was going to happen since last summer," Self said. "Ive said publically many times that our goal for him was to put him in position where this could possibly be the case." Even had Robinson wanted to come back for his senior year, Self said he would have encouraged him not to. What lies ahead are almost assuredly NBA riches. The 6-foot-9 forward could very well go in the first five picks of the June draft, which would mean a minimum rookie salary of more than $2.8 million. It would be welcome news for Robinson and Jayla after what theyve been through. In January 2011, Robinson received a phone call from his young sister, who told him that their mother had died of a heart attack in his hometown of Washington, D.C. The two had been raised by their single mother, Lisa Robinson. In a span of three weeks, they had also lost their grandfather and grandmother, and Robinsons father had never really been involved in his life. The pprogram has been something of a surrogate family. http://www.soccerbelgiumonline.com/Divoc...um-Jersey/. . They helped raise money to cover some of the funeral expenses, and to set up a scholarship fund to cover Jaylas college education. Robinson said it will be difficult leaving Kansas -- his teammates, the coaching staff, the fans and the town. He does plan on coming back to obtain his degree. Robinson doesnt have many credit hours left and finishing his degree is something that his mother would want him to do. He had thoughts about leaving after his sophomore season, which would have been a mistake. "I wouldnt have been ready at all, I would have been eaten alive," Robinson said. "Coming back, this might have been one of my toughest years mentally and physically -- I was playing a lot more this year, there was a lot more going on -- that transformation helped me mature." Kansas will have a difficult time replacing Robinsons output. He raised his scoring average by more than 10 points, his rebounding average by more than five rebounds while being on the court for twice as long compared with his sophomore season. "There was a huge void when Marcus and Markieff (Morris) left," Self said. "There was a void when Cole (Aldrich) and Sherron (Collins) left. There was a void when Brandon (Rush), Mario (Chalmers), Julian (Wright), Shady (Darrell Arthur) and all those guys left. Theres always going to be a void. Were not going to replace 18 points and 12 rebounds. Were not going to recruit a freshman that looks like this when hes 18 years old. Well have guys that will grow into being their own separate version of what Thomas can give to us. Were never going to have another him. Theres no reason to try and duplicate it." Robinson said he has not yet hired an agent but expects to in the next couple of weeks.. "I hope he would want to be with somebody that would say, Hey, were going to put you on a budget, youre going to live on it, this is how were going to do things, and I think he just thrives in that type of environment," Self said. "I think hell be a hugely successful NBA player." Cheap China Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China China NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Cheap Jerseys China ' ' '
